GREEN WORLDWIDE SHIPPING SUPPORTS FIRST LARGE SCALE ZERO-EMISSION TRUCKING DEPLOYMENT IN TEXAS WITH GMA TRUCKING

Green Worldwide Shipping® (Green) is supporting a first-of-its-kind GMA Trucking pilot procurement that will enable the largest known deployment of Class 8 battery-electric trucks in Texas. The initiative, led by the Center for Green Market Activation, aggregates corporate demand to support the deployment of zero-emission heavy-duty trucking on high-volume domestic routes.

“With this pilot procurement, GMA Trucking has shown how to translate market demand for zero-emission trucking services into scalable deployments. Through a competitive procurement process and advance purchase commitments from leading corporations, we have proven a replicable model to get urgently needed zero-emission trucks on the road. With contracts signed, we are already planning for our next even bigger procurement.”
Kim Carnahan | CEO | Center for Green Market Activation

WHAT IS THE GMA TRUCKING PILOT PROCUREMENT ACHIEVING?

The pilot procurement supports the deployment of approximately 40 Class 8 battery-electric trucks on a new all-electric Houston-to-Dallas corridor. The program leverages aggregated demand from participating companies to enable the RFP-winning carrier, Nevoya, to invest in zero-emission equipment and charging infrastructure at commercial scale. This market-based approach is designed to address current barriers to adoption in heavy-duty trucking, where zero-emission capacity remains limited on many core freight lanes.

Once operational, the trucks are expected to travel millions of miles annually while supporting measurable reductions in tailpipe emissions and air pollutants. Participating companies will receive verified zero-emission trucking service attribute certificates through multiyear offtake agreements beginning as early as 2026.

HOW DOES THE BOOK AND CLAIM MODEL SUPPORT DECARBONIZATION?

GMA Trucking applies a book and claim framework that separates the environmental attributes of zero-emission trucking from the physical movement of freight. This structure allows participating companies to support zero-emission truck deployments even when their shipments are not physically moved on those specific vehicles. Environmental attributes are independently verified, recorded in a registry, and retired to support credible emissions accounting.

This approach mirrors mechanisms used in other transportation sectors and is intended to accelerate near-term deployment while the market for physical zero-emission capacity continues to scale.

“Programs like this pilot procurement reflect how we move sustainability forward at Green. By supporting practical, market-based solutions that expand zero-emission trucking, we can reduce our trucking-related emissions now and get more battery-electric Class 8 trucks on the road so we can book physical loads on them soon.”
Anne Shudy Palmer | Director of Sustainability | Green Worldwide Shipping

WHAT DOES THIS PILOT PROGRAM MEAN FOR GREEN WORLDWIDE SHIPPING AND ITS CUSTOMERS?

Through its participation in the GMA Trucking buyers’ alliance, Green supports the expansion of zero-emission trucking options within the domestic freight market while making zero-emission trucking certificates available to its customers. The initiative aligns with Green’s broader commitments to responsible logistics practices, supporting practical decarbonization pathways across transportation modes, and partnering with our customers and carriers for more sustainable supply chains.
