February 23, 2026 | Blizzard warnings have been in effect throughout the New York and tri-state area as the storm has dumped up to two feet (24+ inches) of snow in many locations, with snow falling at rates of up to 3 inches per hour and sustained wind gusts of 40 to 60 mph creating whiteout conditions and hazardous travel. Central Park has reported more than a foot of snow, while Long Island communities and parts of New Jersey have seen totals nearing or exceeding two feet. States of emergency and travel bans are in place, public transit systems, including subways and commuter rail, are severely disrupted, and thousands of flights have been canceled at major airports as authorities mobilize plows and emergency crews to cope with record-breaking snowfall and dangerous wind chills.

WHICH TERMINALS & DEPOTS ARE AFFECTED BY THE BLIZZARD?

Port authorities issued advisories indicating closures or limited access for vessel movements, gate operations, and rail service at select facilities.

Terminals and Depots reporting operational impacts include:

  • APM Terminal
  • Port Newark Container Terminal
  • Maher Terminals
  • Port Liberty Bayonne, New York & CES
  • Ports America & FAPS
  • Red Hook Barge Terminal
  • C&C Maintenance Elizabeth Chassis Depot
  • Columbia Container & Bayonne Chassis Depot
WHAT IS THE PORT’S CURRENT OPERATING STATUS?

Marine terminal operators across the Port of New York and New Jersey suspended vessel operations and truck gate activity as severe winter weather conditions intensified, significantly restricting cargo movement throughout the port complex. Both waterside and landside operations were impacted, prompting carriers and terminals to issue operational advisories and adjust vessel schedules accordingly.

Terminals are expected to reopen in phases as weather conditions improve and safety assessments are completed. However, congestion and residual delays are anticipated as operators process deferred vessel arrivals and work through yard backlogs. Shippers should closely monitor carrier communications and terminal notices for updated gate hours, appointment availability, and revised vessel ETAs, as additional weather-related disruptions remain possible.

At this time, APM Terminals has advised it will remain closed until Tuesday evening, while other terminals across the port complex are targeting a Monday evening reopening, weather permitting.
