The Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) recently announced an additional extension of 77 COVID-related exclusions. Originally set to expire in December 2023, the relief granted by these exclusions will now end in May 2024. Items excluded from Section 301 tariffs levied on imports from China include some hand soap and sanitizer dispensers, cold packs, hot packs, and stethoscope covers.

POTENTIAL EXCLUSION EXTENSIONS BEYOND MAY 2024

USTR is opening public commentary from January 22 through February 21, 2024 in consideration of potentially extending Section 301 exclusions beyond May 2024. Individuals seeking to submit items for consideration are encouraged to:

Clearly state the covered exclusion, express support or opposition for its extension, and address the availability of these products from sources outside China.

Provide insights into efforts to source the product from the United States or other countries, and explain the need for additional time to shift away from Chinese sourcing.
