The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) recently announced a series of America First actions to address unresolved operational barriers impacting U.S. air carriers serving Mexico. These actions seek to align with the bilateral 2015 U.S.-Mexico Air Transport Agreement following ongoing slot reductions and cargo restrictions a Benito Juarez International Airport (MEX).
AMERICA FIRST AVIATION ACTIONS WITH MEXICO
According to DOT, the following actions are designed to ensure compliance with bilateral operating rights and maintain a stable framework for international aviation.
America First Actions:
-
Requiring Mexican carriers to file all U.S. schedules under Part 213
-
Mandating prior approval for charter flights under Part 212
-
Proposing withdrawal of antitrust immunity for the Delta-Aeromexico joint venture
Services between the U.S. and Mexico continue, and further review is in progress.
