RORO ROW YOUR PROJECT FROM SPAIN TO CALIFORNIA

MODE OF TRANSPORT: OCEAN, PROJECT CARGO
ROUTE: BARCELONA, SPAIN TO VERNON, CA
DATE: APRIL 2020
THE CLIENT

A foremost provider of grease and wastewater removal, drain cleaning, plumbing, and maintenance, recycling and converts animal by-products into ingredients for poultry feed and pet food.

THE CHALLENGE

The Green Worldwide Shipping® project cargo team needed to work with local municipalities in order to approve the successful movement of a 21,000kg piece of RORO (roll on/roll off) oversized equipment delivering from Spain to Vernon, CA.

WHAT IS A RORO SHIPMENT?

RORO is short for roll-on, roll-off, which describes how oversize shipments are loaded and unloaded from an ocean vessel.

THE SERVICE

The project cargo team received the client’s booking on March 12, 2020 and immediately worked to secure ocean vessel space for the RORO shipment. The 21,000kg condenser and four supplemental crates were loaded in Barcelona, Spain and departed on March 13, 2020 heading towards California in the United States.

During the voyage to the U.S., the project cargo team engaged with multiple city departments to obtain permits which would allow the oversize cargo to transport on local streets. It was critical that these permits be obtained, or the cargo would not be able to be moved to its end location. The team did an excelled job in aligning the permits prior to arrival to ensure the cargo could be transported on time.

On May 5, 2020 the vessel was unloaded at the Port of Hueneme in California, where the condenser was lifted utilizing an oversized crane with two spreader bars onto the two-axle stretch double drop trailer. After the cargo was on the trailer, the team moved forward on their 70-mile journey to Vernon, CA utilizing a pilot car as safety to navigate the truck. As a result of the minimal mileage and the exceptionally organized project, the team was able to deliver the 21,000kg condenser by the end of day to the customer.
