U.S.–Canada trade negotiations USMCA trade suspension U.S. trade policy Canada trade update The White House announced on social media that trade negotiations with Canada have been suspended. The post came shortly after an advertisement from the Government of Ontario aired using edited clips of former President Ronald Reagan’s 1987 Radio Address to the Nation on Free and Fair Trade.

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute said the material was used without permission and that the edits changed the meaning of Reagan’s remarks. It encouraged the public to review the full, unedited version of the speech available through its official archives.

As of October 24, 2025, no executive order, proclamation, or Federal Register notice has been issued to formalize the suspension. The United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA) remains in effect, and both countries continue to operate under existing trade provisions.
