GREEN TREES: A GLOBAL REFORESTATION PROGRAM

Green Worldwide Shipping® donated 21,309 trees in the first quarter of 2025 through its Green Trees program in partnership with Trees for the Future (TREES). Each tree represents more than a carbon offset—it’s an investment in soil regeneration, food security, and climate resilience across vulnerable agricultural regions. Since the program’s 2019 launch, Green has funded the planting of 656,746 trees globally.

TREES RESTORE LANDSCAPES, STRENGTH SUPPLY NETWORKS

The Green Trees program supports TREES’ Forest Garden Approach—a UN-recognized model designated as a World Restoration Flagship. This farmer-led method restores degraded land by integrating trees, crops, and natural resource management to improve long-term productivity. By investing in ecological recovery, Green’s Trees program helps mitigate the climate and environmental risks that increasingly impact global warming and food systems.

On average, one acre of restored Forest Garden land can sequester over 144 metric tons of CO₂ over 20 years. This carbon is stored in both tree biomass and improved soil, where increased organic matter and microbial activity accelerate carbon absorption and retention. It’s a nature-based solution with significant climate benefits.

ENHANCING SOIL HEALTH THROUGH NATIVE TREE SPECIES

Green’s Q1 2025 donation strengthens ongoing TREES programs in Mali and The Gambia—countries experiencing intensified pressure from desertification, erratic rainfall, and land degradation.

By planting trees tailored to local conditions, these efforts help stabilize regional soil health, increase crop production, and build biodiversity in an area prone to soil loss.

Farmers in the TREES training program plant native and locally adapted trees that are selected for their ability to improve soil structure, support biodiversity, and thrive in semi-arid conditions.

In Mali and The Gambia, commonly used species include apple ring acacia, madre de cacao, and Egyptian pea—fast-growing, nitrogen-fixing trees that restore fertility, balance pH levels, and reduce the need for synthetic fertilizers. These are often interplanted with deep-rooted species like the baobab tree, valued for its nutrient-rich leaves and fruit and its support for pollinator habitats, the jujube tree, which produces drought-tolerant fruit.

TREES FOR THE FUTURE

TREES is a well-respected 501(C)(3) non-profit that focuses on planting trees for poverty alleviation, hunger eradication, and environmental healing. Since 1989, TREES has planted over 404 million trees and restored nearly 142,000 acres, positively impacting the lives of over 527,00 individuals.
