GREEN WORLDWIDE SHIPPING ENDORSES THE GLOBAL MOU ON ZERO-EMISSION TRUCKS

Green Worldwide Shipping has endorsed the Global Memorandum of Understanding on Zero-Emission Medium- and Heavy-Duty Vehicles, known as the Global MOU. With this step, Green joins a worldwide coalition working toward 100% zero-emission new truck and bus sales by 2040. Drive to Zero, a program of the clean transportation accelerator CALSTART, coordinates the agreement. As a result, Green now stands with national governments and leading organizations behind a bold push to decarbonize road freight.

WHAT IS THE GLOBAL MOU ON ZERO-EMISSION MEDIUM- AND HEAVY-DUTY VEHICLES?

The Global MOU is a multinational agreement that commits leading countries to enable 100% zero-emission new truck and bus sales by 2040. In addition, it sets an interim goal of 30% zero-emission new vehicle sales by 2030. Together, these targets map a route toward net-zero carbon emissions across transportation by 2050. Drive to Zero coordinates the initiative, and it supports both government signatories and private-sector endorsers.

While diesel trucks and buses make up a small share of the vehicles on the road, they produce an outsized share of transportation pollution, including climate pollution. For that reason, moving these vehicles to zero-emission technology delivers real gains for clean air, public health, and the climate.

ZERO-EMISSION TRUCKS MATTER

Zero-emission trucking access sits at the heart of Green’s climate strategy as the company continues to invest in sustainability initiatives that reduce scope 3 emissions. The demand for competitive transportation and logistics solutions that lower emissions is only increasing as 2030 commitments get closer.

“Green Worldwide Shipping wants widespread, reliable, affordable access to zero-emission transportation as quickly as possible, says Anne Shudy Palmer, Director of Sustainability, Green Worldwide Shipping. “Zero-emission trucks are critical to our achieving our climate ambitions and offering the clean, responsible freight services our customers want.”

Heavy-duty trucks carry a large portion of every shipment’s road miles. Therefore, cleaner trucks directly lower the carbon footprint of the goods Green moves for its clients. The same priority shapes Green’s domestic delivery network across the country.

ENDORSEMENT SUPPORTS GREEN’S SUSTAINABILITY ROADMAP

This endorsement builds on a long record of climate action. For years, Green has helped shippers measure, reduce, and report supply chain emissions through its sustainability program.

Recently, the Science Based Targets initiative recognized book-and-claim instruments, including ZEMBA and GMA Trucking, in version 2 of its Corporate Net-Zero Standard. Green had anticipated that development. Notably, Green is a founding member of the GMA Trucking buyers’ alliance, which pools demand to scale zero-emission trucking.

The Global MOU endorsement is a well-aligned addition to Green’s commitment. On one side, book-and-claim instruments channel investment into cleaner trucks and fuels today. On the other, the Global MOU drives the policy and market signals that bring zero-emission vehicles to scale.

Green’s support for the Global MOU reflects a simple belief: The climate crisis cannot wait, and the freight industry has a clear role to play. By endorsing 100% zero-emission truck and bus sales by 2040, Green signals where it wants the industry to go.
