TIME CRITICAL HAZARDOUS DRUM LANDS IN PANAMA AMID MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

INDUSTRY: OIL, GAS & ENERGY
MODE OF TRANSPORT: AIRFREIGHT
ROUTE: HOUSTON, TX TO CRISTOBAL PANAMA
DEADLINE: MAY 2018
THE CLIENT

A chemical oil tanker docking at the Port of Cristobal, Panama.

THE CHALLENGE

To successfully deliver 49 hazardous drums of airfreight over Memorial holiday weekend.  Early closures impacted business hours for most airlines as celebrations commenced and more problems complicated the consignment.  The shipment was originally packed in totes too large for airfreight and the shipper did not hold the proper IATA hazardous clearance.

THE SERVICE

Green Worldwide Shipping was contacted on the Saturday morning of Memorial Day weekend about 10,192 kg hazardous consignment located in Houston, Texas that needed to meet an oil tanker docking into the port town of Cristobal, Panama on Monday. Green stepped in to find an air solution for the 22,000-pound, time-critical shipment; however, due to holiday business hours and unavailability of commercial airlines, Green experts turned to a charter solution departing from Miami, Florida.

To further complicate matters, the commodity was packed in totes exceeding the 450L capacity for air cargoes and didn’t hold the proper IATA declaration and labeling.  In order to move the shipment in time to meet the air charter, Green was able to get the consignment repacked into proper 55-gallon drums, labeled, and inspected on-site before leaving for Miami.

THE RESULTS

By 8:00AM on Sunday, Green had the export clearance, air waybill, and IATA hazardous declaration completed, and started coordinating a middle-of-the night airport transfer from the truck to the charter.  The charter departed at 8:07AM Monday morning, landing at 09:29AM local time in Panama City in before the oil tanker even berthed at the dock.
