MARKET SUMMARY OVERVIEW

The Trans-Pacific and India-U.S. markets remain firm heading into July. Trans-Pacific demand continues to support added peak season services, while India-U.S. East Coast capacity remains tight due to blank sailings and space constraints.

Although some improvement is expected in July, Pacific Northwest, U.S. East Coast, U.S. Gulf, and transshipment-dependent routings continue to face the most pressure.

DEMAND MOMENTUM CONTINUES THROUGH JUNE

Trans-Pacific demand remains strong, with market momentum expected to continue through July. Current conditions are supporting carrier efforts to maintain mid-June increases.

However, there is some concern that today’s demand levels may reflect frontloaded cargo. If recent volumes were pulled forward, August could trend below a traditional peak-season pattern. NRF has also pointed out that U.S. container import volumes remain below 2025 levels into early fall, despite a temporary increase in May and June.

SPACE CONDITIONS REMAIN UNEVEN ACROSS NORTH AMERICA

Capacity conditions are expected to improve in July, but challenges remain in the current market. Space to the Pacific Southwest has slightly eased. However, Pacific Northwest, U.S. East Coast, and U.S. Gulf space remains very tight, with most sailings fully booked through the end of June.

INDIA-U.S. EAST COAST SPACE REMAINS TIGHT

India-to-U.S. ocean market conditions remain constrained, especially on the U.S. East Coast trade. Space availability is tight due to blank sailings, and last-minute space remains difficult to secure.

For July, space is expected to remain relatively stable. However, some pressure is anticipated for vessels moving through transshipment ports such as SHA, CMB, SIN, or KLA due to challenges securing second-leg space.

Equipment availability at major origin ports, including Nhava Sheva and Mundra, remains generally stable. However, blank sailings and uneven equipment turnaround may create temporary 40HC shortages at select ICDs.  Overall, the equipment situation remains manageable with planning.
